August 2002 Opening 28th June 2002, 19 p.m. The exhibition of Steve Duval (lives and works in Edinburgh, Scotland) is entitled "Das eco-Kapital" consists of a series of posters and wall drawings that examine the ethics of green language and the motivation behind it´s usage. Much of the discussion alluded in the work concerns the growing debate of what is eco-capitalist and capitalism that has been greened or made to look as though it has green intentions. This debate stems from a rise in the number of companies using environmental issues as a selling point for their product, many of which have been invented to fulfil an ecological ethic. The work aims to open that discussion up and asks where the lines are drawn. The main mural depicts a landscape where eco-sloganism has merged with nature. A very politically correct vision of the future and one that depends greatly on a shift in the way the people view their place in the world.
