++++ Frankfurt/Main is this year's venue for Manifesta. The works of more than 80 young artists from about 30 European countries are being shown at the exhibition. The exhibition venues are scattered throughout the city in museums, exhibition halls and in public places.
At the central venue for Manifesta 4, Frankensteiner Hof, next to the recreation and eating district, Alt-Sachsenhausen, life-size dolls by the Russian artist, Anton Litvin, await visitors. But they have to be looked at it carefully because something is not quite right about these dolls. A preacher wearing a dressing gown is to be seen, a female mechanic in high-heeled shoes, a burglar with a remote control unit in his hand.
Portraits by the Evolutionary Cells
An artists’ group called Evolutionary Cells has announced a prize of ten thousand euros. It calls for "self-commissioned shaping of social perspectives". People are being sought whose portraits will be done in Frankensteiner Hof — a woman who has sold her belongings and since then lives in the residences of people who are away, or a family which has registered in the commercial register as a company dedicated to "private childcare".
