++++ Born in Bratislava in 1972, Ján Mancuska grew up in Prague, where he has been living since 1978. He studied in Prague at the Academy of Fine Arts (1991-1998). Since 1997 member of the group BJ (Bezhlavy jezdec/Headless Horseman).

++++ Mancuska’s installation creates an effect through the immediacy of its production, through a patient human handicraft-like quality. His work uses any peripheral material of civilisation such as Q-tips, plastic bags, straw, paper, soap or wax. Mancuska’s interest in the authenticity of production relates to a fascination in places with a strongly emotional-social charge. A kitchen intimacy, bathrooms, housing projects and week-end cottages to name a few. Lately his approach has become slightly more objective - through the use of video. In these works the camera’s attention is completely focused on domestic routines. (Vit Havranek)
