++++ ’Ohio’, first published in January 1995, is a non-commercial art project in magazine form, a mobile exhibition space for photographic imagery. Ohio deals with the mass of already existing images, it selects, recombines and re-presents them. The photos are shown entirely without accompanying text, except for authors’ credits at the back. Thus the original function of the images, for example as an illustration to the text, is eliminated and the images can be seen in a more open and differentiated way.

Ohio publishes images from very diverse sources and does not differentiate between ‘genres’. It shows daily press pictures, commercial ads, fashion shots, pictures from private and public archives, amateur photography, the works of invited artists, etc. Photos, that would otherwise never find a public as well as those images that have become ‘icons’, appear in Ohio on the same level.
