++++ There is a question which has been on my mind since I read it in a book published by Serge Daney in 1993. As I remember, the sentence was printed in italics: ‘What precisely do we expect from this presence on the site itself?’ (He was speaking of the presence of an ‘image taker’ on the scene of an event). Whether one takes the point of view of the spectator (that of Daney), or that of the image producer (mine), there is no simple answer to this question. A possible response would be that an image is not necessarily expected. Paradoxically, my work is situated in this zone of uncertainty. (Bruno Serralongue)
