++++ Born 1957 in Sofia, Bulgaria. His work was most recently on view in the MIGROS Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zürich, the Tirana Biennial, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin and Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris.

++++ Reversing the initial proposition to ‘be somewhere’ in Frankfurt, or in the exhibition, Luchezar Boyadjiev’s series of responses began by taking away or dismantling bits of the set context. Luchezar is interested in systems, in internal contradictions and conflicts . in a word, he is interested in other people. Without a fixed place or status, going beyond the modes of credibility and recognition affecting his artistic practice, he simply makes himself available, a provider of services. He knows that this receptiveness comes with a price and constraints, and that his services are based on a perversion of the relation between supply and demand. For Manifesta, his project ‘I want you for M4’ consists in offering the possibility of having a portrait done in exchange for payment. Its subject is the lack of images of the anonymous people who are the city’s real actors. This action has to do with photogenics, fiction and desire, but also with an inversion of the economic processes and features of art as added value. (Stephanie Moisdon Trembley)
